Your skin tone, and more specifically, the undertones in your skin, is why that same blue-red lipstick looks completely different on you and your bestie. Certain hues and colors will pop more on your skin than others depending on whether you have warm or cool undertones.
Though they're often confused, your skin's undertones are different from your skin tone. Skin tone refers to what color is on the surface of your skin. Your skin tone may be usually described as fair, medium or deep. Undertones, on the other hand, refer more to what's below the surface. Those with warm undertones have skin that lends to yellow, gold and peachy shades, while those with cool undertones lean toward pink, blue or red hues.
Figuring out what your undertones are takes a bit more than looking in the mirror, but it's just as important as knowing your skin tone. Once you know what your undertones are, it becomes a lot easier to spot what makeup, clothes or hair colors best complement your skin.
